Regarding 'Mommy Crow'
Things have been happening right under your nose, and I didn't tell you because I wanted it to be a happy surprise. Stay tuned for exciting news soon.

An absurd amount of time has been spent doing things probably the least efficient way possible, but even given that things are okay. Seven or so songs are reasonably close to complete, with the most trying ones to record being among them.
In the coming weeks there will probably be work with this fellow to construct something to attach to copies of the edge the middle to tell people about this whole crazy mommy crow business....as in, free copies will be available at various places with some artistical thing attached that describes the new project. Hopefully it will make the existence of this stuff known to some folks who may be interested in it. More on that later.
Speaking of beloved, localish artists, new jessi jefferson (formerly ontolograph) photos are in the works.
Also, since there always seem to be more people keeping up on this stuff than is often realized, if you haven't already you should drop a line to indicate your support/interest/undyinglove...as frustration, self-consciousness, and sometimes crippling self-doubt often lead to the cliffsedge of scrapping the whole thing. It sometimes helps to have people to stand at the edge of the abyss and pull.

From the looks of it, this will be a full 12-song album, but I tend to leave a lot of wiggle room until things are actually laid down and finalized. The recording is going better than expected (toy xylophones, drumsticks on hardwood floors, and found sound ahoy!). If you've been paying attention you'll notice the release date's changed. I can't apologize too much for this, as it is sort of the nature of the beast, however I can say with reasonable certainty that this is the last change to the release estimate and that I'll have a most-official date of release soon. Also been working out what to do for packaging. Jewel cases are gross, but cheap. Sleeves get lost. A smart person would forgo all physical production altogether, but there is something about the permanence and tangibility that makes it impossible to give up. Brilliant insights into this matter are encouraged.
Lastly, one must shout out to McKorgerson (pictured below), who has been a true friend.

This week will include some heavy recording. Heavy, heavy, heavy, I finally got this in the mail today, which is a silly thing, but is the bridge between making sounds in a room and having the compy sit like a nice little secretary and write everything down.

Unfortunately, cutting enormous corners on USB interfaces pays off in the amount of zero. Oh, analog recording, why have we forsaken thee? Why and why and why?

derek and joshie are really, really tired of looking at prospective album art. e.p. is tired of the secret meanings of all things. also, contrary to popular belief, the album is not secretly titled 'Worc My Mom', even though joshie has cleverly pointed out that it can be easily anagrammed (and nearly backmasked) as such.

The last few weeks have been filled with presents, mostly to myself, and mo
stly in the form of things related to the subject at hand. It is not so religious a holiday. Winter trips keep one away from the hammers and nails of music projects, but the mind and its soothing blueprints can sometimes ease one over the mundane humps of the minutiae. So, bits of sound and image have been crawling, crawling, crawling their way into some sort of conceptual whole, and I have luckily been floating high enough above the gravel to watch it happen. Lots of good things to come.

This is what the place we record looks like.

Things at the household are in the pre-recording stage. Certain equipment upgrades are currently snaking through the UPS system, and makeshift bass traps have been rigged from totally substandard and inappropriate materials. This sort of thing is really mostly a symbolic exercise, as M. Standing Wave has come to be a regular performer on our recordings.
The working title for the project is 'Mommy Crow', but we're still at the point where things could change. The rough tracklist (you might recall that I lied last time about this) is as follows:
Prophesy/Sanctuary // The emperor's note // Dining room // Sift // The Shade // The wife is to the husband // Gone are the thoughts of sparrows // Water tower // Mommy crow // I will wear you out // Caterpillar
Stay tuned.
